Preston Russell has had the privilege of being home to the Crown Solicitor warrant for Southland (encompassing Queenstown and Wanaka) for over 40 years. The current Crown Solicitor, Mary-Jane Thomas, was appointed to prosecute serious crime on behalf of the Solicitor-General in 2005 and was the first woman outside the Crown Law Office to attain this position.
