Toilet seats are expensive to replace. There's only one thing they should really last forever and that is how much wear they can get from people using them on a daily basis. Most of the time, the trouble with replacing these fragile items is that in most cases, it isn't worth it because the cost of replacing will be more than what you could buy a new seat already. Refurbishing an old toilet seat is not as difficult as you might think, especially if your toilet itself has been installed properly in the first place (mechanical parts should all be in good working order). Remove the Old Seat and Clean the Area Around It. The first thing you must do is take out your existing toilet seat from your toilet bowl by simply loosening or unscrewing any screws that may hold it in place. Before doing so, however, make sure that all parts are working properly and fit snugly in their places as you would not want anything leaking water on your freshly painted floor or even worse, creating larger problems than what was supposed to be repaired in the first place! Once these parts have been checked and found to be working fine, take out the old toilet seat. Disassemble as Much as You Can with Ease. Whether or not it is possible for you to disassemble an entire toilet seat may depend on how much time you have (preferably a week off) and what kind of tools you own at home (normally screwdrivers and pliers). Disassembling an old toilet seat makes it easier for you to paint them in different colors without having to worry about running into problems where parts are still attached together during the process. If there's anything that can't be taken apart just leave them alone.
